I'm really feeling lost right now, what do I do?

Now don't get me wrong I am in no life threatening situation and this may come off to many as complaining and if it does you can stop reading and not comment. I feel awkward being associated with the nerd herd at my school because some of them have said some pretty hurtful things over the internet but pussy out in real life while others are friends with these guys and view no wrongs in their actions. I feel sad hanging around them and always feel awkward when I am seen with them physically or virtually. My other hobbies include Speech/Debate but I am kind of an awkward person but that yet adds a cute charm to me and I really do like that crowd. So I am confused on what the heck to do and I am NOT trying to associate myself with a crowd but rather appear as I am to others, there is the quote "Tell me who your friends are and I will tell you who you are" which I find right a lot of the time. So what do I do?
