Question about ProRep live moss (for reptiles)?

I just got a large bag of ProRep live moss today for my royal python. The thing is, the python doesn't get here for a week - so do I leave the moss in the bag for a whole week, or put it in the hide box where it's meant to be? How long can the moss stay in the bag? What do I do with the spare moss (there's a whole lot of it). I am extremely confused right now. :s
