Waldorf Astoria Red Velvet Cake with an extra 1 ounce bottle of food coloring—has anyone tried this?

I find that the cake doesn't come out like a nice 'velvety' red like a dazzling red carpet. I'm going to try adding a third bottle of red food coloring and I'm wondering if anyone else has tried this.
