Are some of the benefits and enjoyment of music being lost because of digital music? (long)?
I am computer nerd and so I enjoy listening to music online, on you tube, and occassionally I will buy a song on Amazon. However, with the CD becoming extinct because of online music, I wonder whether we are losing some of the benefits and joys of music? I mean with a practical matter - online music just doesn't have the sound quality of a CD. For most of us that's not a big deal. My bigger wonder is if we lose some of the enjoyment and excitement of our favorite band/group/artist releasing a new album on a specific date, going to the music store, buying the cd and coming home to listen to it. I mean from records up through cds there has been more of an experience when an album comes out and a person brings it home and excitably listens to it track by track. I suppose you could do that by downloading the whole album online but would Sgt. Pepper, Nevermind, or other great albums that changed music have had the same impact if people had only downloaded them from Amazon.com? I guess maybe I'm being a little nostalgic here...Anyway, sorry for this being so long. Please tell me what you think - the most thorough, detailed, and thought out answer gets 10 pts.
